The Position: 

Medical imagery in the form of illustrations, photography, drawings or paintings will be an important tool in our efforts to spread awareness and to educate pet owners about cancer in cats and dogs. As one of our Medical Illustrator volunteers, you will work closely with our medical content teams to create illustrations and graphics to represent information through imagery.  Your creative work must meet exacting standards and solve demanding communication challenges in a factual but not frightening manner.

Only applicants submitting a portfolio containing anatomical, biological and/or molecular medical illustrations will be considered. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Design and Create

  • Create original illustrations for a wide range of subjects
  • Collaborate with our Project Leaders and Scientific Editors to create novel ways of visualizing difficult concepts
  • Work in a variety of mediums including raster graphics, photography, drawings, paintings
  • Create illustrations according to stylistic guidelines
  • Ensure artistic excellence and factual accuracy of the illustrated work

 

Consult and Collaborate

  • Work with team leads and other designers to plan, layout, and execute the vision
  • Collaborate with management and team members to define schedules and deliverables, and to ensure goals are met

 

Technical/Quality Assurance

  • Communicate effectively with our Project Leaders and Scientific Editors to anticipate and resolve issues
  • Work independently or in small groups to troubleshoot and provide solutions

 

Education, Experience, Certification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Medical Illustration experienced required, Certification preferred

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Exceptional proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (ie. Photoshop, Illustrator)
  • Confidently work in an environment with high expectations
  • Comprehend scientific and medical concepts
  • Be receptive to continuous feedback from peers and management
  • Have excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Demonstrate excellence at drawing the animal figure (canine and feline)
  • Develop new skills rapidly

 

About You: 

A successful candidate will have outstanding artistic skills and extensive knowledge of medicine and the biological sciences. Being a team player with great communication and people skills is an absolute must.

 

Footnotes:

  • This position is VIRTUAL and can be completed from anywhere within Canada or the United States
  • Expectations regarding a time commitment would be in the range of 4-6 hours per week on average
  • This project is deadline dependent & will require more hours from time to time, flexibility is a must
